Last last Saturday, I attended LEADERS InSolution Masks Launch Event‏. This bloggers event was held @ Raindrops Cafe. Thanks Elfaine (The Sample Store) and Cossy for the lovely invite!

From 1st March 2012 onwards (tomorrow!), LEADERS InSolution Masks will be officially launched in Watsons.

We were given a brief introduction on LEADERS InSolution Masks, followed by a mask demo.

The model-of-the-day (Yi Jing) had one side of her face mask-ed with LEADERS InSolution Mask, and the other with Brand X. Do you know which is which?

LEADERS InSolution Mask is an ultra fine & thin silk cellulose mask sheet which adheres to the skin snugly, whereas Brand X is a normal cotton mask sheet which threatens to fall off any minute (true enough, it kept falling off throughout). The former is soaked with tons of highly concentrated essence. The latter? Water type essence. Upon removing the mask, one can instantly see the apparent result difference of the respective masks. The right side of her face was clearly more radiant. YES, LEADERS InSolution Mask wins hands down!

Mask review time...

My pick -- Aloe Soothing Skin Renewal Mask, which provides skin hydration, skin soothing, helps calm & balance irritated skin.

It has a faint floral scent. The mask material is soft yet not flimsy. One thing for sure, it doesn't tear easily.

The left-over essence in the sachet is enough for me to apply for both legs and arms. Now, they feel so soft and smooth to touch. The consistency is runny, and feels kinda sticky. The stickiness dissipates when the essence gets fully absorbed into skin.

You can see now why I pick this mask. See the redness on my skin? I did some light extraction at the nose area. Well, my skin gets red very easily coz it's very thin and sensitive.

Having tried so many masks so far, this mask does adhere to my face contours quite well. The mask sheet is thin enough for the redness on my skin to peek through. Not the thinnest but somehow I really like the material.

 

After leaving the mask on for 20mins...

I am WOW-ed by the efficacy of this mask -- thumbs up! *love x infinity*

Redness ALL GONE! It really does relieve skin stimulation fast with its aloe extract - skin soothed in just 20 mins.

Clear, hydrated skin... *happy max*

This is an ultra-soothing mask, which hydrates the skin well at the same time. If you're looking for an effective mask to soothe a sudden skin trouble or sensitive condition without stimulation, look no further. I'm sure you'll love this mask as much as I do.

I reviewed the Slim V and Gold Power earlier on (CLICK HERE). In this post, I'll be sharing my thoughts on Snail Charm. The thought of having "snails" on my face... *shudders*

ABOUT

Research has shown that snails are able to rejuvenate its shell when cracked or broken, due to a secretion they produce. This heals and protects the snail's skin from free radicals, sun radiation, cuts and abrasions. Further studies show that this secretion has similar structural elements to the human skin. It is odourless, safe, non-toxic and non-allergenic.

The Hydrogel Mask combines the valuable cell-proliferating healing agent (ability to regenerate healthy cells) which stimulates healthy tissue formation and anti-oxidant, proteins to enrich the skin, glycolic acid to remove dead skin cells and to moisturize the newly exfoliated skin surface, collagen and elastin to give body tissues firmness, strength and flexibility.

When applied to the skin, it triggers and contributes to the natural healing process of damaged skin. Repairs, protects and prevents skin from further damages. Suitable for all skin types.

I leave on Snail Charm for 40mins. For conventional sheet masks, the recommended timing is 15mins (no more than that).

As compared to the previous masks, this has more essence left-over (applied on my legs). The essence has a runny consistency. That came as a nice surprise as I visualized it to be disgustingly slimy. It does have a mild sticky feel though. This time, I rinse off after mask-ing.

When the mask is placed on the face, it doesn't feel wet. The mask does not adhere to the skin well, and falls off quite easily.

Snail Charm doesn't feel as moisturizing as I would like. Doesn't irritate my skin. It is pretty soothing to the skin. That's about it? For best results, it is recommended to mask this 3 times a week. The mask is on the pricey side [1 pc - $4.90, a set of 5pc - $17.80]. I'll prolly "invest" the $ on Slim V, which is my favorite so far. If you wanna try Slim V, you can redeem it via The Sample Store HERE.

Their best-selling beverages - Homemade Thai Lemon Grass Drink ($2.30) & ★ Traditional Thai Milk Red Tea ($2.00)

I prefer the latter. I like that it's not overly milky, with a stronger tea taste.

The former taste exactly like Hack's Sweet - Lemon. That's weird, to me.

Papaya Salad ($5.30)

Crunchy green papaya bits. A mix of sour & spicy taste.

My 1st time trying. I still prefer the usual Mango Salad.

★ Fried Butter Calamari ($7.50)

Flavorful buttery taste. Reminds me of cereal prawns, seriously.

Super yummy! I love this dish!

★ Thai Mango Crispy Chicken ($7.50)

The mango is exceptionally sweet! The fried chicken looks normal, but taste really good!

My favoritest! Highly recommended!

Thai Green Curry ($6.50)

I only ate a tiny piece of chicken, which is pretty tender.

The coconut taste is quite strong. A lil' too sweet for my liking.

★ Pineapple Fried Rice ($5.90)

Honestly, this taste more like normal fried rice.

Overall, this dish is nice (though it has no pineapple taste), I LIKE!

Tom Yum Fried Rice ($6.90)

***Available only from 3-6pm***

★ Thai Garlic Pork ($6.90)

Super tender pieces of pork. Though it's fried, but it doesn't taste too oily.

I like that the garlic taste is not too overwhelming.

Thai Pandan Chicken ($9.00)

My mum used to make these in the past. And, they tasted heavenly.

A lil' oily. The meat is acceptably tender, with a hint of sweetness.

Hmm... this dish doesn't taste as good as my mum's.

I think the rest like it very much though.

★ Tom Yum Seafood ($6.90)

I tasted the clear one. Quite tasty.

Love the sour + spicy kick! :d~

My 1st reaction: "SO CUTE!!!"

Thai Lemon Fish ($13.50)

Hmm... I love eating fish, but I didn't really like the taste of this though.

Thai Lemon Grass Steam Fish ($13.50)

Fried Kailan ($4.50)

Just a normal veggie dish. Fresh, crunchy taste.

I hate the garlic. Eeks.

★ Fried Sweet Potato Leaf ($4.50)

Super duper nice (though there's garlic)!

Phad Thai ($5.90)

Too dry. I don't like.

Stir Fried Basil Leaf with Chicken ($5.80)

Stir Fried Basil Leaf with Pork ($5.80)

I prefer the one with pork. More tasty, in my opinion.

I don't like the taste of basil leaf though.

Thai Black Pepper Crispy Fish ($14.50)

★ Thai Crispy Spicy Sauce Fish ($12.00)

The crispy fish itself taste very-very good!

I don't like the spicy sauce though.

O.O!!!

Overall, I enjoy the dining experience at Ah Loy Thai. Cheap & good food indeed. NETT price; no GST/service charge. Will definitely go back for more! They still have lots of dishes, which I've yet to try... Glutinious Rice with Mango sounds niceee... AND of coz, my favoritest Thai Mango Crispy Chicken! :d~

We are literally spoilt for choices when it comes to skin-loving products. And, I must say that beauty companies are getting more & more innovative nowadays.

Thanks to TheNatureLab/TSS, I was sent TheNatureLab Hydrogel masks for review.

Unlike traditional sheet mask, Hydrogel does not have any holding medium. It is made of high quality ingredients (water, seaweed, vegetable extract), pure nutrients and essences using advance technology, to form into a soft water-gel mask. This is just like how ice is formed from water.

Slim V

Provides nourishment to skin and aids skin cell rejuvenation, for a supple, firm and radiant skin.

The texture of Hydrogel reminds me of agar-agar (non-stretchable). The mask will tear if you do not handle the mask with care (especially when you've long fingernails).

As shown from the image above, it is not drenched with essences.

Hydrogel will "melt" upon applying onto face, which helps the nutrients and essences to penetrate deeply into skin.

Hmm.. I think the eye/lip mask pieces are optional to put on? Upon putting on the (glossy-looking) mask, it gives my skin a nice cooling sensation. The mask does fit onto the face contours well, but is prone to fall-outs as well. That means I can't multi-task with this particular mask.

I put on the mask for a good 40mins, which is nearly 3x my normal mask-ing routine!

All is worthwhile, coz I can see the moisturizing glow on my face! My skin looking very refreshed after removing the mask.

Hmm... I don't see any firming effect... BUT... HELLO! Soft and smooth skin :D

Favorite-d! ♥

 

Gold Power

Contains yummy ingredients (caviar & salmon egg extract). This mask helps to nourish & restore the skin. According to TheNatureLab, it has an amazing ability to slow down signs of aging.

Shimmery gold mask, which smells oh-so-good! Too bad, it can't be re-used...

Pretty mask yea? It doesn't leave the skin shimmery though... I wished :p

In my opinion, Gold Power is not as moisturizing as Slim V. In fact, I barely see any results after using the mask. Perhaps only noticably softer skin... =.=

Menthol

Personally, I find Ice Cool Menthol too drying for my hair. It does not lather that well, which leaves me thinking that my hair isn't cleansed well. It has the familiar minty scent similar to the other anti-dandruff shampoo I used before.

Hmm.. I don't have dandruff problem, hence I can't judge on that. However, my scalp do itch at times. It doesn't do much to solve the itchy problem though.

The only thing I like about this shampoo is the cool minty sensation. The refreshing feel dissipates almost immediately after washing.

I much prefer Anti Hair Fall! It lathers really well. My hair feels well cleansed, soft & manageable after using this shampoo. I can't tell much about the hair fall part since I don't have much of an issue with that. The sweet floral scent is light & pleasant, which I like very-very much!

This definitely gives me a much better shampoo-ing experience, as compared to the Ice Cool Menthol.

Lunch-ed at 海外天 Oversea Restaurant (again!); the same day I attended Tom's Palette's Ice Cream Making Workshop.

This time, we tasted a total of 14 dishes(!!) + 1 specialty signature dish. These dishes were like home-cooked food, which I really missed having. The portion was not as big as compared to the previous time though. We managed to finish everything effortlessly (lol). Well, the food was really good! That goes without saying!

We were led to the same VIP room (different table).

 

凉瓜炒爽肉 Wok Fried Crispy Sliced Pork with Bitter Gourd ($9.80)

Pork neck meat is used in this dish, which well explains the tenderness and flavorful taste.

I don't exactly fancy the taste of bitter gourd in general. However, I find that the bitterness is acceptable and adds a lovely crunchy texture to the dish.

 

伊班茄子 Braised Egg Plant with Diced Prawn ($9.80)

l love anything brinjal (egg plant), especially claypot ones (think 鱼香茄子). The aromatic taste of diced prawn complements the brinjal very well.

I like that the brinjal is firm and fresh; has a nice sweet chewy taste. Overripe ones tend to taste bitter and spongy *yucks*

 

We had rice to go along with the dishes.

Hmm... a lil' dry for my liking...

辣子鱼滑 Fried Chilli Fish Paste Roll ($9.80)

The chilli sauce for this dish is home-made; the taste is similar to that of chilli crab.

The fish paste roll has the right QQ texture, reminds me of fishballs! Simple yet tasty :d~

 

鱼汤让四宝 Yong Tau Foo in Superior Fish Broth ($10.80)

The deep fried beancurd skin stuffed with minced fish meat (I think) can be eaten alone or dipped in the superior fish broth. I prefer the latter.

The soup base is rich and taste sooo good! The yong tau foo were cooked just right, somewhat different from the usual fare. Yummy! *SLURPS*

 

菠萝云吞 Sweet & Sour Wok Fried 'Wan-tan' with Pineapple ($12.80)

A simple colorful dish. The 'wan-tan' skin is crispy. Taste ordinarily good.

 

百草西柚霹雳球 Crispy Fish Fillet with Lemon Grass & Grapefruit ($12.80)

The sauce is the key, in my opinion. Kinda like thai-style; sweet & sour. I LIKE!

 

咸鱼蒸鸡腿 Steamed Chicken with Salted Fish ($12.80)

This dish gives me a super homely feel.

I love chicken thigh meat; so tender! I love salted fish; so salty (lol)! Perfect combi :D

 

瓦煲番茄蛋 Tomato & Egg in Claypot ($12.80)

l love anything eggs. I love tomatoes as well.

BUT... I don't really like this dish.

The egg omelette is not as soft as I like. The tomatoes are very fresh though.

 

原粒面酱豆根薯仔煲 Bean Tendon & Potato in Claypot ($9.80)

Another super homely feel dish.

The gravy goes really well with rice. Both the bean tendon and potatoes were cooked to perfection; soft and yummilicious!

 

肉碎桂豆苗 Stir Fried String Bean with Minced Meat ($12.80)

Baby long beans are used - fresh and crunchy taste.

Slightly spicy. The minced meat enhances the overall taste of the dish.

 

肉丸豆腐煲 Braised Beancurd with Meat Ball in Claypot ($12.80)

Favorite dish-of-the-day! A must-order!

The meatballs are incredibly tasty, which absorbs the full flavor of the gravy!

The braised beancurd is amazingly silky smooth... melts in the mouth kind... *drool*

 

油浸脆草莞鱼 Deep Fried Grass Carp ($12.80)

I would have like this dish if there's more gravy. The fish taste fresh but rather bland without the gravy.

 

珍珠雷沙汤丸 Sesame Dumpling ($12.00)

Glutinous rice balls, served dry. No soup.

Peanut bits and sugar, sprinkled all over 'em. When light reflects on 'em, they look so "shimmery".

Soft & chewy texture. The sweetness is just right :D

 

The additional dishes!

The manager recommended this super yummy dish to us. Another favorite dish-of-the-day!

Stewed soft bone pork with carrots.

Everything can be eaten, including the soft bones! The meat is not as soft as I would like. Tasty nevertheless.

I actually prefer the carrots to meat! Super soft and taste oh-so-good (with the full flavor of gravy).

 

海外天叉烧 Oversea Special Char Siew ($30 for medium serving)

I can never forget the cameralized sweet savory taste, that is uniquely Oversea Restaurant.

It leaves me wanting for moreee! I should be able to finish one plate of this on my own (lol)!

For a table of 10, the total bill came up to be only $202.85 (exclusive of the additional dishes). Pretty reasonable I would say.

It was my 1st time making ice cream from scratch! And, I gave my "1st time" to... Tom's Palette :D~ Thanks Elfaine (TSS) for the invite!

Do you know... Tom's Palette homemade ice cream parlour has been serving ice cream since September 2005? AND, they've been creating ONE NEW FLAVOR every month!

They've many flavors to choose from...

Some exotic ones like SALTED EGG YOLK (what!?!? I must say it taste really good, I like!), Salty Yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit, taste not bad!), Chocolate STOUT (They use ABC Stout... ahems... I'm not really a fan of stouts...), Lavender (I seriously HATE the taste! Feels like I'm eating "air purifier"... My face literally turned "purple" :/), Camomile (I HATE anything Camomile! Period.).

Anyway, I tasted ALL flavors. My favorites are:- Lychee n Rose, Salted Caramel Cheesecake, Salty Yuzu, Apple Pie, Granny's Favorite, Summer Berries and of coz SALTED EGG YOLK!

Their traditional homemade ice cream is made from scratch using ingredients like eggs, milk, cream & sugar.

There's a "live" demo, before we started making ours.

 

Horlicks flavor ice cream is what we were going to make. The only Horlicks ice cream I had prior the workshop was McDonald's... Well, totally different taste I would say.

Ingredients for one cup of ice cream:

• 1 x egg yolk
• 1 tbsp of sugar
• ½ cup of milk
• 3-4 tbsp of Horlicks
• ½ cup of cream

 

THE RECIPE

Using only the egg yolk, add 1 tbsp of sugar to it and mix well.

Add ½ cup of milk into pot.

Stir while heating up the milk.

Remember to use low heat, don't let it boil!

Then, add 3-4 generous tbsp of Horlicks into the heated milk.

Pour the Horlicks + milk mixture into the egg yolk + sugar mixture, while stirring simultaneously.

Continue to use low heat and stir. If not, you'll get scrambled eggs instead! :x

Cook all these ingredients until it becomes a thick and rich sauce.

Add ½ cup of cream and combine evenly.

Freeze and churn by hand!

Easy peasy?

 

Well, I did the last step wrongly (by cooking the cream as well =.=") and ended up with a really small cup of super-duper-sweet Horlicks ice cream.

Can you guess which is mine? =.="

Anyway, do give the ice cream making a shot. If you don't like Horlicks, you can always try Milo??

Review:

I like that FANCL MCO doesn't drip while I massage it on my face (thanks to the thick viscous texture). No need to rub hard, just need to massage gently. FANCL MCO is formulated with a unique Smooth Cushion Oil that minimizes friction-stress on skin. An exceptionally comfy cushiony feel on my face, which I don't experience with other cleansing oils. Emulsifies well and rinses off easily with water.

Although it states that it is mild, the effectiveness in removing makeup is not compromised. My heavy makeup especially (tough and stubborn) waterproof mascara is dissolved effortlessly, with all traces of makeup thoroughly removed with ease. No signs of irritation at all. My skin feels totally cleansed and refreshed with no oily residue. FANCL MCO is by far the best cleansing oil I've used.

The new Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Cleansing Oil is formulated with high purity olive oil, which provides high performance cleansing. The bottle itself is lightweight, with a pump (like that of the typical cleansing oil packaging). On 1st look, the color of the product seems to be deep yellowish (similar to DHC). However, that's not the case. In actual fact, the outer layer is a translucent deep yellow, to indicate that it is oil-based.

When dispensed onto my palm, the product is color-less and runny. It has a much lighter consistency, as compared to other cleansing oils.

For half-face, I use at least 2 pumps of cleansing oil for heavy makeup. Next, I gently massage the cleansing oil onto face and eye area. Then, I proceed to wet face with warm water to emulsify the cleansing oil.

When makeup is completely dissolved, I rinse my face thoroughly with warm water. Finally, I double-cleanse with facial cleanser.

 

Voilà! Perfectly cleansed face! :D

It is no wonder that I've favorite-d this awesome cleansing oil. It works like a charm for sure. The cleansing power is hands-down superior; removes my heavy makeup gently yet effortlessly in merely 10mins. It even removes hard-to-remove Majolica Majorca & Kiss Me Heroine Make range of mascaras very well (tried and tested).

When applied onto face, the cleansing oil feels comfortably light and has no hint of olive scent (fragrance-free). It spreads easily on the face and emulsifies really well (I like the feeling!). As compared to most cleansing oils I used, lesser water is needed to rinse off the dissolved makeup and cleansing oil. My face feels refreshingly smooth, clean and moisturized, with absolutely no greasy/sticky feeling. Ahh... what's not to like?

To me, an additional step of double-cleansing is a must, so as to remove my makeup thoroughly (to avoid nasty breakouts/clogged pores).

At $20.90, Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Cleansing Oil is no doubt an inexpensive AND highly effective makeup remover. Highly recommended! Exclusively at Watsons island-wide from 1st Nov 2011 onwards.
