Do you remember the compulsory dental check-ups during your primary school days? I think I was one of the odd few who love visiting the dentist at that time. All kids are known to be scared of dental check-ups. Some will even start crying the moment their names are being called. For me, it's an excuse to skip class :P

Now, the problem is, we don't really pay much attention to our teeth AND gums as we age. We dread visiting the dentist coz it's like so expensive. Besides, our mentality is that it is not necessary at all. Well, I'm guilty as charged.

Like how we take care of our skin, maintaining healthy teeth and gums are super important, especially the latter. Gums are the foundation of healthy teeth. Once the gum tissues are damaged, it cannot be reversed!

By taking proper care of your gums, the chance of getting gum disease (infection) is lowered. You get better oral and general health, healthier and more beautiful smile.

Fyi, gum disease is a silent disease. You might not feel any pain at the initial stage.

Here are some of the signs of gum disease:-

• Gums bleed easily even with gentle brushing
• Red, swollen gums
• Persistent bad breath
• Gums that have pulled away from the teeth

In fact, according to Singapore Health Promotion Board Survey in 2003, 85% of Singaporean adults have some form of gum disease. Also to my horror, I learnt that gum disease is a social disease, which means it is infectious! It can be passed from parent to child, between couples, and friends... scary =.=

Besides, it also triggers other health ailments like:-

• Contribute to the development of heart disease
• Increase the risk of stroke
• Increase a woman’s risk of having pre-term births
• Pose a serious threat to people whose health is compromised by diabetes or respiratory diseases

Last month, I had the pleasure of attending Nespresso U's exclusive media launch event, thanks to Elaine. It was a night to remember, very memorable indeed.

The lovely understated event venue, Kam Leng Hotel, is a unique boutique hotel that was first established back in 1972. It was reopened this year, bringing back the nostalgic memories of the Nanyang past.

The revival of old fittings, fixtures, furniture and the juxtaposition of newly designed objects... I was literally being brought back to the early 1900s.

We were led to the 2nd floor, a makeshift area specially for Nespresso U's media launch.

Sexy red U! 

There was a brief speech by Irene Latoa, unveiling the Nespresso U. A delectable three-course dinner was served thereafter, by contemporary French-Japanese fine dining restaurant, LP+ Tetsu. 

My gastronomic journey began with this interesting-looking molecular appetizers. My favorite was the celery one, that's right at the end. Simply orgasmic!

Okay, this one looked really ordinary. Looks can be deceiving. I tell you, it was oh-so-soooo good! You gotta add some green tea sea salt into the the vinegar thingy (red plate). Then, dip the bread thingy into the mixture. Yummilicious max :d~

No-no, it wasn't dessert. It was cream of cauliflower, I think. Another interesting AND delish concoction!

Finally, the main course - I opted for fish. Not bad, but definitely pale in comparison with the earlier dishes. The orange mashed thingy was sweet potato. The asparagus was tasty!

Box of desserts NOT. We have to earn our desserts by joining in the treasure hunt. It so happened that I was holding on to the room key. And, we were split into groups to discover how the U gets integrated into our different lifestyles.

We had the opportunity to explore the different themed rooms by 5 designers of different personalities. 

The 1st room was kinda halloween-themed (lol). Definitely not a girl's room eh.

And, here's my 1st cuppa freshly brewed coffee. I had 5 cups that very night - different flavors. I'm a true coffee lover :P

Then, we entered this dark mysterious room...

There I was, lying on the bed, in the dark, capturing this perfect shot. These were balloons by the way, with the special light effects. Another favorite room of mine.

Final destination - the room with the whimsical fairytale feel.

This is the limited edition Grand Cru Crealto, developed using 100% washed Arabica coffees from South and Central America and Indonesia that can withstand long roasting without becoming over-roasted. The beans were simmered 3x longer than the average Nespresso roasting times to extract aromas and flavours harmoniously and to the fullest.

Crealto comes sealed in a white capsule with brown streaks reminiscent of the way chefs decorate their creations. With an intensity of 8 on a scale from 1 to 10, Crealto has round, roasted notes that linger on the palate, revealing nutty aromas when enjoyed with milk.

Finally, I'm done with the photo-taking, resizing and editing... of the Maybelline Hyper Cosmos Duo Eyeshadows (awfully late I know). They surely make my blog seem more colorful yea? :P 

A unique combination of crushed pearls and pure pigments, Hyper Cosmos covers a constellation of 7 gorgeous (duo complementary-toned) marbleized shades. Its new baked eyeshadow technology is an innovative baking process that removes excess water pigments for pure, intense, saturated colour. 

These baked beauties look very familiar. At first glance, I would say they are pretty much like MAC Mineralize Eyeshadow Duos, just that the packaging is rather fragile. That doesn't really affect me much, as long as the eyeshadow is good. 

Btw, baked eyeshadows can be used either wet or dry. If you prefer a more intense pigmented color, go with the former. The effect is absolutely divine.

The swatches are without the use of primer. The 3rd shade [on the right] is a mix of the duo tones.

PC-1 looks more like a peachy blush/highlight. I love the veinings, the prettiest among all.

Lip gels... sound pretty intriguing? They are unlike your usual lip balms in stick form, housed in twist-up tubes. This medicated lip gel series launched by Mentholatum, are packaged in squeeze tubes, bearing a striking resemblance to lip gloss. 

I like the fuss-free squeeze tubes, as squeezing them gently dispense the right amount to be used on my lips. Plus, it's easy to clean the slanted dispensing tip after every use.

Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gel

Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gel contains hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture, to provide long-lasting lip hydration. It also contains collagen to improve lip texture and elasticity.

They are basically colorless, with Vitamin Lip Gel looking "more opaque". 

The lip gels are easy to apply. They glide on my lips smoothly, leaving a thin moisturizing layer of gloss. I like that they are pretty lightweight, and not overly glossy. They don't feel uncomfortably sticky or greasy. All three moisturize my lips well. After they wear off, my lips still stay soft, supple and moisturized without the constant need of reapplying. 

Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gel is the most hydrating of the three, with a pleasant fruity scent. The intense moisture effect is really long-lasting. My favorite is the Vitamin Lip Gel, which has a tingling sensation when applied on the lips. I absolutely adore the refreshing minty feel! It soothes and relieves dry, cracked lips very-very well. As for the Q10 Lip Gel, it feels glossier than the other two. It has no scent, by the way. After using it for some time, I find that it does help reduce the appearance of fine lines. My lips look suppler.

Last month, I attended Anti-aging 101 Beauty Talkshow by 牛爾老师 Niu Er (thanks OMY). It was held at CHIJMES Hall. The main objective of this event was to introduce Kose's latest anti-aging range - Infinity Prestigious, designed specially for matured skin. Through this event, I learnt several skincare tips and massage techniques that help improve skin tone, texture and firmness.

At the start of the event, Niu Er shook everyone's hand as usual. A few lucky ones got to hug him, not me though.

For the record, he's 45 this year. Hmm... he looks younger than he was back in 2010. Well, credits to his 60mins daily morning run and healthy diet (mainly fruits and vegetables). He was telling us that he makes his very own fresh soy milk from scratch (grinds soybeans), and drinks it every morning. Apart from soy milk, he loves fresh cold-pressed fruit/veg juices AND plain water.

You are what you eat/drink. WORD.

It is literally full house with 95% ladies! Can you spot me? :P

Niu Er talked about work stress' impact on the skin - how the face looks at 10am (work start) and 5pm (work end). The greatest impact can be seen on Monday VS Friday when the skin looks fresh and radiant (Mon), then gradually becomes dull and saggy (Fri) after days of work. SAG-SAD.

Other causes of skin aging includes: smoking, sun exposure, nutrition, hormones, inherited genes, etc.

Twins, but they look years apart. One is constantly exposed to the sun, while the other is not. That's why.

The older sis (pictured on the right) definitely looks much younger. SUNBLOCK IS A MUST!

He did a live demo, by using Kose skincare (step-by-step from cleansing to moisturizing) on only half of the face. The results were clear, with that half of the face visibly lifted and radiant. The participant was truly enjoying her facial moment. BLISS!

Hmm... I forgot her name. She's the Kose director if I'm not wrong? Anyway, my point is that she looks much younger than her real age (55 year old!). Fyi, she's using the new Infinity Prestigious range.

She introduced the new Infinity Prestigious range - Lotion ($153), Serum ($153) and Cream ($460). 

This range is recommended for those who are experiencing significant aging symptoms such as sagging of the entire outline of the face AND those (regardless of age) who want to care for visible aging symptoms immediately.

The main ingredients are psidium guava leaf extract (anti-aging), aloe barbadensis leaf extract (enhance skin rejuvenation), lavender extract (hydrate skin).

Kose Infinity Serum Prestigious

The serum has a rich texture, but doesn't leave any sticky feel after absorbed. It has this pleasant floral scent, so soothing!

Niu Er, demonstrating the massage techniques to counter laugh lines. With both hands in a L-shape manner, enclose your nose and mouth as if you wanna shout-out-loud. Glide upwards along the jawline, all the way till you reach the sides of your face. Best to do it alone since it's not umm... very glamorous :X

For face slimming AND reducing water retention on the face, massage the forehead using your fingers to "draw" M and reach your temples. Slide down the sides of face and neck. Then, press and massage deep on the inner of the collarbones.

This is another technique for reducing water retention. Starting from "lifting your chin" position, glide upwards from the chin all the way to the forehead. Then press on the temples.

That marks the end of the beauty talkshow - a (row-by-row) group photo. No individual photo with Niu Er... *sad face*

Other tips I learnt during the beauty talkshow:

• Use cleansing cream to massage face (with makeup) for 3mins. Then place cling wrap on nose. Sebum and whiteheads will emerge due to heat. Wash off the cleansing cream. Use tweezer to remove whiteheads.
• To control oil sebum, use cotton pad soaked with astringent lotion to wipe face followed by the patting motion. If you have makeup on, blot off oil from face. Then use cotton pad soaked with astringent lotion to pat on face. Touch up your makeup.

Along with the Maybelline Clear Smooth B.B Stick, I was introduced to 2 "new" flavors of Maybelline Baby Lips SPF20 Lip Balm - Cherry Velvet & Mango Pie.  

I'm not new to these lip balms, having tried the Anti-Oxidant Berry flavor before. Oops! I didn't do a review on that :X

Fancy having baby soft lips?

The lip balms are enriched with centella essence, which gives instant 8hr moisture AND rejuvenated lips in 1 week. And, they come with SPF20 which most lip balms lack of. Our lips need UV protection too!

The ingredient list for both flavors is the same.

As you can tell from the photo above, they are non tinted. Scent-wise, they smell fruity, true to their names. I clearly prefer Mango Pie as I am never a fan of maraschino cherries.

When applied, the lip balm glides on the lips with ease, smoothly and gently. I like that it leaves a healthy balmy sheen on the lips, without being sticky or greasy. It doesn't feel overly thick too. Just nice, in my opinion.

This highly moisturizing lip balm is definitely a hit with me, giving me softer and suppler looking lips. The fine lines on my lips are also significantly reduced.

With Maybelline Baby Lips SPF20 Lip Balm, my lips stay well hydrated for hours. What's not to like?

Last month (on National Day eve), I attended Maybelline "An Arresting Lash Revolution" held at Zouk. It was the launch of Maybelline's new mascara - Lashionista. It was truly a massive turnout! The queue was super long! *GASP*  

At the event, there were free makeovers and a booth selling Maybelline's new makeup. Those who attended the event had the priority to snatch and buy Lashionista a month before they are officially available in stores. That's to say Lashionista is already available for sale since it's Sep now!

If you don't already know, 'Golden Tan' is known as Maybelline Makeup Youtube Tutorial Sensation cum Extraordinaire.

For this makeup look, Larry Yeo was using the new Hypercosmos Eyeshadow Duo CH-1 I think... correct me if I'm wrong. A gorgeous mix of crushed pearls and pure pigments that are marblized to give dimension to the eyes! 

She was making us laugh all the way, with the clever use of words! Very pun intended lol xD
