I guess most of you have already heard of the highly acclaimed Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara, which is said to give you true doll lashes -- separated, thick, long, "nylon-shine" lashes.

Marketed as Lancôme's first fragranced mascara, it has whiffs of ultra-feminine floral notes -- a sweet rosy scent.

Retails at $50, available at all Lancôme Beauty counters.

It is elegantly packaged in a curvaceous glossy black tube, embellished with a shower of Lancôme's signature roses.

Lancôme's research laboratories actually took 7 years to perfect this ideal hybrid wand, which is protected by a trio of patents. It has a nylon, conical brush tip that enables it to capture every lash, even the tiny ones at the corner of the eyes.

I curled my lashes prior application, which is a must.

At least 2 coats of mascara is needed for the doll-eye effect. As you can see, the intensity of the black is there. It actually forms a liner effect at the base of lashes, making the eye look so much awake defined.

I usually do 2 coats of mascara, shown in the image above.

My thoughts:

The mascara formula is slightly wet, which takes a while to dry. The first few attempts of using this mascara weren't that favorable, quite messy in a sense. I find that it is much easier to work with after subsequent uses, when the mascara formula is more dried out. This is what I notice for most mascaras.

I find that the brush size is too big to work with, while I like that the iconical brush tip does help in getting to the tiniest of lash easily.

It scores well in thickening and lengthening my lashes sans the clumps, making 'em look fuller. I really like how intense the black is, with a hint of glossiness.

The mascara being non-waterproof, I'm glad that it doesn't smudge/flake on me... not even once. However, the one thing I dislike about a non-waterproof mascara is the lack of ability to hold curls. Well, it is easily removed though -- using Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover.

Overall, this is a pretty good mascara but doesn't have the wow factor. Having said that, I'm sure the waterproof version will fit the bill.

The moment I received this mascara, I was particularly drawn to the pretty doll image (on the packaging). The next thing I noticed was that the mascara tube was slightly longer than that of the usual ones. This mascara is battery-operated, and the battery compartment is located at the top of cap.

Like Cyber Colors Ex Volume Waterproof Mascara, the brush head is bendable (easy to comb through the lashes throughly). I absolutely appreciate the single start/stop button, unlike the Maybelline Pulse Perfection Vibrating Mascara (need to press & hold the button to activate the vibration. extremely tiring for my fingers!).

After taking out the insulation spacer (at the battery compartment area), press button once to activate rotation. Press again to stop rotation. When you press the button once again, the brush will rotate in the opposite direction. That means if you start with clockwise direction, this time will be anti-clockwise.

Note: Clockwise (top eyelashes), Anti-clockwise (bottom eyelashes)

 

Took a short video (5 days ago), to demo how the mascara works on my top eyelashes (left eye). Not easy to film (with iPhone) and apply the mascara simultaneously. Fyi, I didn't curl my eyelashes prior application.

This mascara has the familiar scent of my HG Sasatinnie Super Dolly Powerful Curling Mascara - Black! Well, it's the same brand :D The intensity of black is the same; super duper black!

The mascara formula is slightly wet, hence don't blink when it's still wet. I applied just 1 coat for both sides (top & bottom). 2 coats is more than enough. The rotating brush enables the spiky bristles to catch every single eyelash for intense definition. It visibly curls, lengthens and volumizes my eyelashes pretty well, albeit a lil' clumpy (on close-up scrutiny). It doesn't smudge or flake on me. Yes, it's waterproof! However, I've no difficulty removing it. An oil-based makeup remover will do the trick!

All in all, I enjoy the novelty of a 360˚ rotating mascara. It does live up its claims on creating that luscious eyelashes in double-quick time.

Recently, I received Cyber Colors latest mascara - Ex Volume Waterproof Mascara in Black for review. Thanks Kiyora (Sasa Sg)! :D

2 sides:- COMB vs BRUSH

I apply mascara only on my upper lashes. As usual, I curl my lashes prior application. Using the short bristles (BRUSH-side), I apply the mascara from the roots to tip of lashes in a zig-zag manner. Then, I use the COMB-side to define the lashes. I like that the brush head is flexible for me to apply mascara to the hard-to-reach lashes especially the tiny ones.

Yet another super black-black mascara. Intense, I like! The formula is slightly wet but dries really fast. I find it easy to use, without depositing too much mascara on the lashes. I apply 2 coats and find that it clumps slightly. So, I think 1 coat is good enough. The lashes look and feel very soft to touch. Lashes stay nicely curled for the whole day.

The cons? The mascara flakes and smudges. Not extremely serious, in my opinion.

From a distance, it still looks very black.

Overall, it makes my lashes look really volumized. It belongs to the stubborn mascara category. So, do use an oil-based makeup remover eg. cleansing oil to remove it thoroughly. It cannot be removed using a water-based one (tested and proven by me).

I received this Bebe Diva Supervolume Waterproof Mascara as part of my goodie bag when I attended Bébé Poshé Launch Event (way back in July this year).

Simple black packaging with a princessy touch (multi-faceted part). The light pink wordings are a nice contrast. Very girly, I like!

So, on to the photos/review..

Does this mascara speaks volume? You be the judge..

FYI, this is 3 layers of mascara :x

It is obvious that it doesn't live to its claim. That's definitely not voluptuous lashes we're talking about. Well, 3 layers of mascara to get the desired effect is not very desirable.. The mascara formula itself is on the dry side. Too dry for me, in fact. I like my mascara to be a lil' wet, for easy application. Overly wet tends to be a mess too. So, finding the right one is no easy feat.

The color intensity is good, darkens and defines my lashes the way I like. It separates my lashes pretty well. Free of clumps too. It is easy to remove. Using warm water will do.

All in all, it doesn't add length or volume my lashes, just minimal curl & color definition. For me, I like to use it to comb my lashes after my regular mascara.

Truth be told, the Bebe Doll Superlong Waterproof Mascara is a much better choice (in my opinion). I'd tried it during the launch event and it's many-many-many times better than Bebe Diva Supervolume Waterproof Mascara! Do get Superlong instead of Supervolume. You'll love it!

Early last week, I had the privilege of attending Lancôme Hypnôse Precious Cells Mascara mini launch event, many thanks to Sharon's extended invitation. I was super excited about this event, as I'm very much a self-confessed mascara addict! And, Lancôme mascaras never fail to impress (at least to me).

The primary focus was on Lancôme Hypnôse Precious Cells Mascara, while we had the chance to try out Lancôme Ombre Absolue Impact 3D Eyeshadow Palette range.

Contrary to belief, Lancôme's eyeshadow palette are judged as the boring neutral and smokey colors. That's not exactly true. I've the Lancôme Color Focus Palette 4 Ombres in 100 OZ which was a favorite of mine years back.

I'll try to find it and take a photo of it. Time to re-organize my makeup stash! :x

The eyeshadows are on the sheer side, which I think an eye primer is essential to bring out the colors (if you prefer stronger vibrant colors). I particularly like the liner shade which is a pretty dark blue with micro-shimmers.

A30 Papillon Violette

This is a gorgeous purple palette! I like the violet color (right in the middle) as well as the liner shade (dark purple with micro-shimmers).

 

OTHER COLORS!

I also noticed that the liner shades for the new colors are more smooth in texture whereas the "not-so-new" ones are more powdery (with the exception of green one).

My favorites? Purple-Green-Blue!

On the event day itself, I did try out the Lancôme Hypnôse Precious Cells Mascara in a haste.

I applied 2 coats of mascara on my top lashes, without curling 'em prior the application. The mascara does help to curl and lengthen my lashes naturally.

My lashes are not THAT volumized as seen from the photos above. It is a true black mascara which I really like (based on 1st impression).

 

 

My 2nd time using the mascara. This time, I applied 3 coats and curled my lashes prior application.

I place the brush on my lash fringe, slowly wriggling upwards and outwards for "fanned out" lashes. This zig-zag motion can help to deposit more mascara on your lashes and separate 'em beautifully. To help the curls hold better, stop the brush at the tip of lash for few secs when doing the zig-zag motion.

I find that it is good for defining the bottom lashes.

It is very easy to remove. Just warm water will do!

 

LIKES:

• long-lasting & smudge-resistant
• lengthens & defines lashes well
• true black color
• easy to remove
• dries fast and doesn't flake
• no weird scent

 

DISLIKES:

• slightly clumpy
• the bristles are kinda pokey on the eyes

 

IMO, it's great at lengthening and defining the lashes effortlessly. Good for day use. If you love natural-looking lashes, this is definitely THE ONE.

If you love fuller dramatic lashes, this doesn't cut it. Well, a lash primer might just do the trick.
